For some firefighters, Landover Hills Volunteer Fire Department is not just a place to VOLUNTEER, it is also a place to call home. We provide rent free living in exchange for the Live Ins giving some of their free time to staff apparatus. The Live In crew is a close group who not only make it their priority to support each other operationally, but also to stick together like a family. Day in and day out Live Ins teach together, train together, of course run calls together, making their participation an integral part of fulfilling the department’s mission. Aside from the life long friendships you will make as a Live In, you will gain valuable operational experience being exposed to the number of calls Landover Hills Volunteer Fire Department takes in on an average night.
With our location central to many local universities (Univ. of Maryland, George Washington, Georgetown, UMBC, PGCC, Bowie State), being a college Live In could not be easier or more rewarding. Many of our members qualify for tuition reimbursement programs/scholarships that are provided for by the State of Maryland. Many of the basic training classes can be accumulated toward college credit.
